the worst is over

Thank You God, The Girl did well with her surgery today. Times have changed since her daddy had his tonsils out lo these many years ago. She did not seem to have much pain, no nausea. She has been able to eat farily well. She has been drining well. She only threw 2 fits, one when I wasn't there when she got back to the room from surgery and one when I wasn't there when she woke up from her nap. The rest of the time, she was pleasantly goofy from medication and for the most part easy to get along with and fun to be with. We played all kinds of stuff, she is in to pretending that she is a dog or a cat or a baby or a teacher or the mama so we had a variety of things going on. Her other mawmaw brought her a tiara and a Strawberry Shortcake night gown, and some day of the week princess panties. She did everything she could come up with to get me to take her home with me tonight. I had to tell her no because her daddy's fiancee has strept throat. She should be able to come on Saturday for her regular visiting day. She is so precious and so funny. she told her mother "You crack me up" over something her mom had done. I had her almost asleep tonight when she decided she wanted to lay down with her mama instead. She settled down with her mama and I made my way to the door. Don't look back!! Just keep going, she is involved in something else at the moment and you can make your disappearance. It must have worked, since her mom didn't call me with any disasterous news. Yes, Thank You God.

Impending surgery

Don't look now, but tomorrow moning The Girl goes under the knife, or laser, depending on what's happening at the given moment. She has to have tubes in her ears redone, her adenoids redone, and those nasty tonsils removed. The goal is a healthier child, the scary part is, will she bleed, will she wake up, will she be consolable, etc etc etc. Never let it be said that watching a loved one suffer is easy, It is terrible when it is a child. It was bad enough when it was my own child at about this age but this is my GRANDCHILD, which affects me differently but even more. Dear God, keep her safe. and please keep me from attemping to kill her mother, the real estate agent. The real estate agent who just happened to schedule a client to see houses with on the same dang day has her daughter's surgery. The same agent who is "trying" to contact the client to reschedule the showings till the next day. Gee, what a sacrafice. While it is true that my son will not be at the facility for the surgery, he will only be a phone call away at work. There is no way I am going to allow the two of them in the same confined space around me while The Girl is in surgery or in distress after surgery. They can't get along on a good day, and this isn't about them and their drama, it's about taking care of The Girl.

Dance Class Registration Day

Today, we got The Girl some Tap Shoes, which she has worn for the past 2 hours, They go along with some pink ballet slippers, pink tights, black briefs, a black twirly sheer shirt, and pink T shirt. While we were at the studio signing up for Tippie Toes class, we watched about 12 3 & 4 year olds in their class room. Wow, were we impressed. The Girl loves dance class.

changes by the moment

Don't let anyone try to tell you that life doesn't change. Whatever is going on in your life, I can assure you that it or something is going to change. There is no time for boredom here. As a matter of fact, the whirlwind of changes going on has me tired out. It is 8pm and I am ready to go to bed. We always love to have our granddaughter here with us. She is a blessing in our lives. Her mother has custody and lets us see her pretty often at this time. She recently withheld visitation from us for weeks because she was mad at our son, the granddaughter's father. The mom, who is not happy unless there is constant drama of which she is the center of attention, had her driver's license confiscated last night. It's a long story, but sometimes your history and your ugly deeds come back around to bite you in the butt. So in the morning I will pick up the Girl and take her to school on my way to work. No problem, always willing to do for her. During the conversation regarding the need for help with transportation, the mom tells me that she is again going to have papers filed to seek child support from our son. I do not have a problem with that. He should be responsible for providing some support for her. However, the last time she filed for support, over a year ago, we responded by asking for joint custody as grandparents. Because she refused to allow us to have joint custody, her suit just kind of dwindled to nothing. Now we will start over with another response to the suit. We want to be able to see and participate in her live without the ability of the mom snatching her away from us at every whim. So let the games begin.

Another change is that my sister is buying a new house! Spacing up, as it were. :Yes I am envious, I want more space too. I can't do it right now, durn it. She is cramped where she is right now so this is a good thing for her. It will also give her cats more space to move around since the bid dog has moved in. And she should have a good sewing space now. She will have more space between her house and the neighbors.

Another change is that my son seems to be doing better in general. He has finally agreed to take some medicaiton for his bipolar condition. And it seems to be helping him not have such drastic mood swings. That is amazing it itself.

A Day in the Life

It is always a joy to spend time with my granddaughter, The GIrl, ( as in the ONLY girl ever ) who just turned 3. We currently get to keep her at least 2 days per week, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Sometimes more, depending on things. It is amazing to see her develop into her own little person. She seems smart beyond her years, she is usually polite, please and thank you and you're welcome are not uncommon at all. Lately, she has added "I like your..." depending on what has caught her attention. I don't remember teaching her that intentionally, but I am sure that I tell her that I like so and so when she gets something new or when she writes or draws something. It is a joy but it is also tiring!. She can wear me out, depending on what we are doing. Today started early with a party at Chuck E Cheese for my friends 2 grandkids. The GIrl had a ball. We used up all our left over tokens from another trip there and when she cashed them in, you would have thought she got pure gold instead of a red and black scorpion ring, some yellow snake teeth that can fit in her mouth, it makes her laugh out loud to put them on, and best of all a pack of smarties. She got to take home two balloons from the party, and these are also priceless treasures. She loves to play with them. She pronounces it Bal yoon like Anthony on the Wiggles. Brillant child speaks English and Australian, what can I say. After we got home, we went back over some of the things she got for her own birthday last week. She was pleased as punch to look through the treasure and played with stuff for quite a little while while I got lunch together. She ate fairly well off her plate, then came to check out mine. Of course, she got anything she wanted of the plate. Hey - she was eating afterall-. I don't mind if she eats off my plate or hers, I know some folks can't tolerate that, but I am not one of them. Finally after a rather late lunch for us, we went to work on taking a nap. She was going to lay down in her own bed by herself. that lasted about 10 minutes or so, then she asked me if she could lay down in my bed. No problem, that sounds like a nap for her and me. Before we were asleep, her pawpaw came in from mowing grass and laid down too. We all sawed logs for at least 2 hours, then it was up again, play, read, polish pawpaw;s nails, ( what a guy) stay up later than usual, finally take a bath, watch a Hap Palmer music DVD of kid songs, and then off to dream land. I am now sneaking a few minutes to read, check eBay for bargains, listen to some music, make sure pawpaw and I have had our night time medicines and get some sleep myself.

Sleuth Moment

My sister and I had to act as sleuths today in a very unusual and unsettling moment. We became HIGHLY suspicious of the Texan and started putting 2 and 2 together...we come from a suspicious family ( yes some would say paranoid) and we with hold our trust for a while after we meet someone. Then when something comes up, we say, see, I knew it. Now if nothing bad happens, we say HMMM this person might be OK. You know that feeling you have when you are convinced that things are not as they appear? Well I have been having that feeling for some time about the Texan and today he did something I find dec eitful. Don't screw with my family or friends. I will do my best to make you miserable. We made up answers to all our questions and mulled them over for our reactions. He was able to explain it to my sister out of my earshot ( not really any of my business) and my sister seems satisfied with the explanation. So if she is ok, it's ok with me. I am willing to give him another chance if she is.

Moments Fly

Moments fly when you are having fun. We had some very good moments during the weekend celebrating the 3rd birthday of our granddaughter. What a treat. She had so much fun. She decided she would cut her own birthday cake. She has a future as a sushi chef or chop shop operator. That girl can cut some cake, now mind you, only the first cut resembled a piece of cake, the rest of the cuts looked like someone had run over the cake. She had whipped cream frosting all over the plastic knife, her hands, her Daddy's shirt, her nose. It was great.

We had a very good moment when we all lay down for a nap after the party. WHew, what a day. Time has flown since she entered our lives. It is amazing to see her grow up and change right before our eyes. She is a beauty, she is smart, she has a whiny kick going on lately, she can throw a fit, and she can be so loving, she likes to make jokes.

We had some good moments when we went to my one and only favorite niece's house this eveing. The Girl loves to go there, I'll call them Sassafras and the Electrician. They have a relatively new puppy named Gabby and an orange family member named LOKI. Well, LOKI doesn't run for the hills now when he sees us coming, but he is cautious since he is well aware that The Girl will be picking him up and carrying him around with her if at all possible. He will protest and get under the couch.

When we got home we watched the Wiggly Wiggly Christmas ( yes it is August) for the umpteenth time lately. We had a good moment with that. The Girl loves the Wiggles and she loves Baby Jesus, so this is right up her alley. THank you Wiggles.
